NuSmile Family Dentistry honored as Leading Business of the Week

Uber “Unlocks” Valdosta for New Transportation Service
Minimum of 40 drivers needed

Uber, who helps passengers get around in the more than 450 cities they serve, announced Feb. 2, 2017 that it is extending its international transportation services to Valdosta and the surrounding area.
“This is the beginning of transit in our community, not the end,” said Valdosta Mayor John Gayle. “Uber will create jobs, assist citizens with transportation to employment, and also allow future discussion of a potentially unique partnership to meet public transportation needs.”
Uber requires a minimum of 40 drivers to sign up as Uber Drivers to validate a need in the area. Citizens who are interested in working for Uber are encouraged to sign up as an Uber driver by Feb. 28.
The services are expected to impact area residents in all walks of life and connect people across the community.
"Ride sharing services are a great way to encourage our airmen to get out and enjoy our local community and what it provides,” said Colonel Thomas Kunkel, 23rd Wing Commander, Moody Air Force Base. “We appreciate the efforts of the City of Valdosta for helping to bring these services to the area that will not only benefit our airmen but all of our community."

Jessie’s Restaurant and Catering Recognized as Small Business of the Month
 
 
VALDOSTA, GA- The Chamber Ambassadors recognized Jessie’s Restaurant and Catering as the inaugural Small Business of the Month.
 
Jessie’s Restaurant and Catering has been a staple to the Valdosta-Lowndes area since 1999. Jessie’s is proud to be a local restaurant that serves farm to table food by partnering with local vendors like Carter and Sons Produce, Sunset Farms, and South Georgia Pecan Company. Jessie’s has proudly been a member of the Chamber since 2009.
 
Owner, Mikki Hudson, purchased the business in 2009 and shortly after moved locations to help alleviate issues that are accompanied by traffic in Downtown Valdosta, expanded the menu to include a brunch service, and gained a liquor license.

The Chamber Announces 2017 Chairman’s Circle Members
 
VALDOSTA, GA- The Chamber would like to announce its 2017 Chairman’s Circle Members and thank them for their investments in the Chamber.  
 
“Chairman’s Circle members invest membership dues above-and-beyond regular dues that allow the Chamber to provide above-and-beyond service to all of our members,” explained Chamber president Myrna Ballard.  “Our Government Affairs Council could not do the work that it does without this supplemental investment, for example.  Neither would several new programs, such as the Valdosta Business & University Alliance, be possible without the additional investment of our Chairman’s Circle members.”
The Chairman’s Circle is the most exclusive membership that the Chamber offers. The Chairman’s Circle is comprised of 12 of the top businesses in Valdosta and provides a foundation that allows the Chamber to be actively involved in the Valdosta-Lowndes area.
The Chairman’s Circle was created in 2013 and businesses like Citizens Community Bank and First State Bank & Trust took part in the founding of the membership level. Ribbon Cutting at Sonny’s BBQ
 
 
VALDOSTA, GA- The Chamber Ambassadors recently held a ribbon cutting at Sonny’s BBQ to celebrate it’s remodel. 
Located on Norman Drive, Sonny’s BBQ is a family-friendly restaurant that provides a casual environment where customers can enjoy various Southern BBQ-inspired menu items. 
 
When asked why they chose to do a ribbon cutting, Margie Kluess, general manager stated, “A Ribbon Cutting was the perfect way to celebrate the change in management and get folks in to see our fresh look and of course taste some authentic BBQ!“

​VALDOSTA, GA – In January, THBoyd Communications won the 2016 Southwest Georgia Bank Business Plan Competition. The business plan presentation was based on creating and publishing the South Georgia Business + Culture Magazine, which launched its inaugural issue last month.
 
The editorial content of the magazine is focused on creating an awareness and synergy about South Georgia’s economic impact, business opportunities, entrepreneurship and research, as well as the vibrant cultural growth within the region.
 
“This magazine would not be possible without the support of my partners at Southwest Georgia Bank, the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce, and University of Georgia Small Business Development Center at Valdosta State University,” said Thressea H. Boyd, CEO of THBoyd Communications. “The magazine presents a regional message to a statewide audience.”
 
Complimentary copies of the magazine are distributed to business and industry leaders, governmental representatives, and key influencers throughout Georgia. In 2017, three issues are scheduled for publication.
