Valdosta High School Student and Teacher Recognized with PAGE STAR Award
by Chamber News on March 13th, 2015

A Valdosta High School student and teacher were honored Thursday evening at the 2015 PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) Region 10 Awards Banquet at the Valdosta Country Club. STAR Student, Eileen Rou Chen, a senior at Valdosta High School, and STAR Teacher, Holly Stone, a Valdosta High School IB Psychology teacher, were selected as the Region 10 PAGE STAR award recipients. Chen will move on to compete for the honor of State PAGE STAR Student next month.

The PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program, now in its 57th year, is co-sponsored statewide by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Foundation and the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.  To obtain the STAR nomination, high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the three-part SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average. The student who is selected as the STAR Student for a school then chooses a STAR Teacher to share in this recognition.

The Region 10 STAR event attracted nearly 150 attendees and was hosted by the Valdosta-Lowndes Chamber and Smith Drug Company, the 2015 local sponsor of the STAR Region event.
"We are very proud of Eileen and Mrs. Stone and the academic excellence they exemplify at Valdosta High School," said Laura Fitch, with Smith Drug Company. “They not only represent their school, but they represent our entire community. We are thrilled that their outstanding work has been recognized as part of this prestigious program.”

Since its inception, the program has honored more than 25,000 students and the teachers they have selected as having the most influence on their academic achievement. For more information about the program, please call Karil Brockington at (229) 247-8100 ext. 228.
