Board Receives Update on Five Points Development
by Chamber News on July 2nd, 2012

“You can accomplish unbelievable things when no one cares who gets the credit,” stated Bob Goddard referring to the Five Points Development project. Goddard provided an update on the project at the Chamber Board of Directors quarterly meeting.

The presentation included an overview of the comprehensive plan for the 22 acres. According to Goddard, Five Points is immensely underutilized and a steering committee is working to maximize this community gateway. The committee has been tasked with making sure every current need continues to be met while still looking forward to possible needs 50 years down the road.

Plans include construction of a new auditorium and the relocation of South Georgia Regional Library. “South Georgia Regional Library is a huge gem for Valdosta,” stated Goddard. “This project is the opportunity to make Valdosta the cultural center of South Georgia and North Florida.”

The project, heavily dependent on the passage of SPLOST VII, would break ground in late 2013. The committee has been hard at work, including visiting four locations in other cities to study their designs and functions to make this project as comprehensive as possible.
