Chamber Centennial Celebrations Continue
by Chamber News on June 25th, 2012

The Chamber continues to commemorate its centennial year with important events. Last week the Centennial Luncheon, sponsored by Georgia Power Company and Covington’s Dining & Catering, celebrated 100 years of Chamber successes. Past leaders and attendees reminisced on old times as a presentation highlighting major accomplishments throughout the years was shown. Click here to view the presentation.
Another aspect of the Chamber’s Centennial is the Centennial Tree Project. Sixty-five 12’ Live Oak trees have already been planted in the median of St. Augustine Road near the industrial parks area. The addition of trees to the bare St. Augustine median has made a huge visual impact on the area.
These trees are only stage one of the year-long project. Stage two will include planting a cluster of trees in early 2013. These trees are still available for sponsorships.
The trees are beautiful in themselves, but it doesn’t stop there. VSU Art Professor Hollis Barnett is creating a sculpture to commemorate the project. This 8’x 4’ two dimensional metal tree will hang in the Barber House and will recognize all who helped make this special project possible. An artist’s rendering of the sculpture is shown above.
And to celebrate the completion of the project, the 100th tree will be planted at the Chamber office in honor of all former Chamber Presidents/Chairmen of the Board. Please contact Erika Bennett at 229-247-8100 to honor your business or loved one with a tree today.
And last, the premier event to attend this year will be the Chamber’s Centennial Gala to be held Saturday, September 8 at the James H. Rainwater Conference Center. “The Sky is the Limit” as attendees enjoy heavy hors d'oeuvres and cocktails and dance the night away to live music provided by the Grapevine Band. This semi-formal event is a once in a lifetime celebration. Tickets are now available and are $50 per person or $450 for a corporate table of 10. There are a limited number of tickets available, so please purchase your tickets online by clicking here or call the Chamber to pre-order.
