Governor Deal speaks at Chamber breakfast
by Chamber News on April 30th, 2012

Local legislators and more than 200 Chamber members personally thanked Gov. Nathan Deal last week for funding $32 million for the Valdosta State University Health Sciences and Business Administration project at the Chamber’s state legislative breakfast, presented by Packaging Corporation of America.

In addition to reducing government spending and the need for criminal justice reform, Gov. Deal said education will continue to be a top priority, so the 2013 budget will now include additional days for Pre-K funding and the state will be investing in craft skill education and implementation of a reading mentor program.
The Gov. addressed recent tax reform legislation which will eliminate the sales tax on energy used by manufacturers, eliminate the birthday tax currently applied on tag renewals, eliminate the marriage tax penalty allowing up to $7000 in tax credits for married couples, and increase sales tax incentives for farmers.

At the conclusion of the event, guests took the opportunity to meet the Governor and welcome him to Valdosta.

Video footage from the event will be available soon at
