Peaceway Counseling & Mediation Services and Peaceway DUI School sponsored the 15th Annual DRUGS DON'T WORK In South Georgia Seminar.
The DDW program was implemented in 1997 as a workforce development initiative to address the prevelence of substance abuse in workplaces throughout the South Georgia region. The first breakfast seminar to train Supervisors was hosted at Greenleaf Counseling Center of South Georgia Medical Center. This tradition continued for 14 consecutive years.
Through regional partnership with Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce and Adel-Cook, Ashburn-Turner, Douglas-Coffee, Lakeland-Lanier, Moultrie-Coquitt, Quitman-Brooks and Worth County-Sylvester Chambers of Commerce the DDW program has expanded and truly impacted the workforce in South Georgia for 15 years. The pioneers of the DDW program are recognized as follow: Quillian Powell (Quillian Powell Construction Company, Inc), Jud Rackley (Brandon, Rackely & Dukes, PC) and Chamber Staff program coordinators: Joan Kierce (Remax Realty of Valdosta), Amy Panizzi and Mike Stalvey (Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce).
While celebrating the success of the DDW program, participants were educated on the prevelence of substance abuse in the workplace today. Some of the topics of discussion from the panelists included:
o HR Role when addressing substance abuse issues in the workplace
o Pros/Cons of outsourcing the drug testing vs. conducting in-house testing
o Different types of drug screening available and which are most reliable
o Pros/Cons of outsourcing drug testing vs. conducting in-house testing
o Importance of treatment intervention in the workplace
o Prescription Drug Abuse
o The new drugs on the scene is "Spice"
o and so much more...
** This seminar meets the annual supervisor training requirements of the Drug Free Workplace program.
